RAMELTON WOMAN Maired Coyle bowed out of the World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championships in America overnight.

Coyle gave it her all in a tussle with Barbara Barros. The fight was scored at 2-2 until the final minute when Barros pulled away to score a 10-2 win.

The Championships were held at the Walter Pyramid at Long Beach State University in California.

Coyle, competing in the female blue belt division at rooster weight, had won a European bronze medal in January in Portugal and was crowned the Irish BJJ Open champion just last month.

She trains at Rilion Gracie BJJ/MMA Academy in Letterkenny.

“I am super disappointed that I couldn’t do it for my team Rilion Gracie Ireland, as without them I wouldn’t even be here taking part,” Coyle said on Facebook.
