Maeve McCarron misses out on Ulster title, but Liam Crawford wins 9 Counties

MAEVE MCCARRON LOST out to Caroline Connolly in the Ulster Senior Championship final last night in Bellinis, Newry.

The 18-year-old Carrigart ABC woman was beaten by Connolly on a unanimous decision, with the Mourne Golden Gloves ace, a former Raphoe ABC boxer, showing her experience.

McCarron won the seventh Irish title of her young career last month when she overcame Jenny Carlyle of Enniscorthy in the National Intermediate final (pictured above).

The Carrigart puncher moves on swiftly from her disappointment, though, as she weighs in this morning for the National Elite Senior Championships.

Twin Towns middleweight Donna Barr and Illies Golden Gloves light-flyweight Darryl Moran took Ulster Senior titles by way of walkover wins.

Also last night, there was Ulster success for young Raphoe boxer Liam Crawford.

In the Ulster 9 Counties final at 42kgs, the 11-year-old bantamweight (pictured below with coaches Gerard Keaveney and Gary McCullagh) defeated Carrickmore’s Ryan Haughey.
