Local leagues to participate in condensed Oscar Traynor Cup competition

THIS SEASON’S Oscar Traynor Inter-League competition will be played in a condensed window.

The group stages of the junior inter-league competition will be played over a month between October 24 and November 29.

The 37-day period will see all group matches played off before the competition moves into its knockout stage.

Inishowen League are the defending champions. Diarmuid O’Brien’s team defeated Limerick and District League 2-1 at Maginn Park in May when Stephen McLaughlin and Kieran McDaid scored the golden goals.

Inishowen have been real standard bearers in the competition with a final defeat against AUL in 2013 and a semi-final loss to the same opposition in 2014.

The Donegal League – managed by Brian Dorrian from Killybegs – are in Group D alongside Inishowen, Sligo/Leitrim and Cavan/Monaghan.

Inishowen open up with a home game against Sligo/Leitrim with Donegal away to Cavan/Monaghan before the local derby sees the Donegal League hosting their Inishowen counterparts.

In the final round of games, Donegal are at home to Sligo/Leitrim with Inishowen traveling to Cavan/Monaghan.
