Listen: ‘When the chance comes, I’ll be ready’ says Finn Harps’ Michael Gallagher

After making a first Premier Division start last week in Cork, Finn Harps youngster Michael Gallagher says he will keep ‘banging on the door’.

Gallagher was handed his Premier Division bow for the 1-1 draw at Turners Cross, having made substitute appearances against Dundalk and St Patrick’s Athletic.

The Letterkenny man, whose only previous senior start was for an EA Sports Cup clash with Sligo in April, was back on the bench for Friday’s win over UCD, but he knows he has to earn his corn yet.

“You just have to keep banging on the door,” Gallagher told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“When you get in, you have to be ready to take it. When it comes, I’ll be ready. I just have to keep working hard and push it on as best I can.”

John Kavanagh was unavailable for the game against Cork, the club from which he is on loan, while Colm Deasy was suspended, meaning Horgan handed Gallagher the chance.

He said: “It was brilliant to get the shout and go in. I just want to do my best.

“You want to go to places like that and go and test it out against the best. I enjoyed the experience.”

On Saturday, Gallagher scored for the Harps U19s as they defeated Shelbourne to maintain their unbeaten start to 2019 and go joint top of the League.

Gallagher said: “It’s important to keep the run going. It’s great to get on the scoresheet, but it’s more important to get a good team performance and another three points.”
