Listen: ‘We weren’t good enough’ says Ollie Horgan as Harps lose to Dundalk

Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan claimed his side simply ‘weren’t good enough’ as they went down to champions Dundalk last night at Finn Park.

Striker David McMillan netted in either half as Dundalk eased to a 2-0 win.

Harps struggled to create anything of note, although they did have a legitimate penalty claim waved away late in the game.

“We weren’t good enough and we didn’t do enough to deserve to win the game against anyone, above all Dundalk,” Horgan said.

“We have only ourselves to look at that we didn’t play as well as we could. We needed everybody playing at their best to compete and that didn’t happen.

“We created a few half chances and we had a penalty claim that I’d like to see again. David McMillan, to be fair, was offside for the second goal, but the better side still won. David McMillan hit the post and the crossbar – he could have had four goals.

“There were a lot of differences, physically and football wise. The disappointing thing is that we didn’t play as well as we could have.”

Harps have eight points now from their opening eight games of the term, but Horgan says his men have to defend better: “We didn’t deal with the crosses for the goals. We have a better attacking side than we’ve ever had, but we have to get the defensive end of it right.”
