Declan Bonner admits his frustration at Donegal’s dropped points so far in the League.
A last-gasp goal by James Durcan saw Mayo sneak an opening night draw in Ballybofey and on Sunday-week past, Galway came from seven points down to beat Donegal by two.
Seven of the teams in Division 1 are separated by just one point as Donegal get set for a trip to Croke Park on Saturday night to face Dublin.
“It’s very, very tight,” Bonner told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub this week.
“Most games have been just a point or two with a lot of draws. It has been a very competitive opening three matches and I don’t see it being any different in the next four.
“We conceded a very late goal against Mayo and we were seven points up against Galway and let a poor goal in.
“If you take those goals out of it, our defensive unit has been very good. We should be on six points, but we’re on three.”
Dublin, the five-in-a-row All-Ireland champions, haven’t quite sparkled this year so far, but Bonner expects a stern test; something he appears to be relishing.
He said: “A lot of their old guard and key players are still there. They have a lot of the big guns in there. We will be tested and we will be challenged. That’s what you get from Division One football.
“You can’t beat games of this quality. The lads who are coming in are getting a lot of exposure to top-class games. We’re trying to gel a squad together now with the older lads too.”
