Listen: ‘We have the tools to beat Dublin’ – Maxi Curran

MAXI Curran believes his Donegal ladies can go ‘toe-to-toe’ with All-Ireland champions Dublin.

Donegal begin their TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship quest on Saturday against the Dubs at Breffni Park (throw-in 5pm, live on TG4).

Dublin have won the last three All-Irelands and were in the three finals before then. Curran says they are ‘the second best ladies football team there has ever been’. A daunting task, but one he says his squad is relishing.

“We know that we have the tools to beat Dublin,” Curran told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It’s fair to say that this is the second best ladies football team that there has ever been, after the great Cork team.

“It’s massive. We’re treating it as a straight knock-out.

“If we got over Dublin, we would put ourselves in a great position.  We know that we have the players to go toe-to-toe with Dublin.”

Donegal are in a round robin group with Dublin and Waterford in a reshaped Championship following the Covid-19 lockdown.

Curran said:  “Everybody is raring to go at this stage. It’s been an awful long year. We started getting gathered up in November last year for what we thought would be a normal year.

“The rug was pulled from everyone. It’s almost November again so it’s been a long run-in. We’re delighted that it’s happening and we’re looking forward to getting back at it.”
