Gavin Cullen fumed at what he said were ‘two big decisions’ that went against his Cockhill Celtic side today.
Ulster Senior League champions Cockhill were beaten 1-0 at home by title rivals Letterkenny Rovers.
Jonny Bonner’s first-half penalty gave Letterkenny the edge and Cullen railed against the decision to award a spot kick for a foul on Luke Nelis by Lee McCarron.
“The penalty decision was wrong,” Cullen protested.
“Lee saved the ball with his left leg. I know why he gave it, but I don’t know how he gave it. That changed the complexion of the whole game and gave Letterkenny something to hold onto.
“I feel really annoyed about losing the game. We were excellent for the first half-an-hour, we were well on top and only one team was going to win that match. Goals change game.”
Cockhill’s Laurence Toland had the ball in the net in the second half, but an offside flag cut short the celebrations.
“Again a shocking decision,” Cullen said. “That’s what you’re up against. Two big decisions that went the wrong way killed us.”
Cullen felt that his side ‘played into Letterkenny’s hands a bit’.
He added: “We didn’t move enough and didn’t create enough. The final ball wasn’t clinical enough.”
