Listen: Tony McNamee vows that lack of effort won’t sink Finn Harps

Tony McNamee admits that Finn Harps’ confidence is brittle – but says they’re not ready to wave the white flag.

Harps have taken just two points from a possible 39 this season and have yet to taste a League victory in 2019.

A 2-0 loss to St Patrick’s Athletic yesterday evening meant a tenth League defeat in a row – a club record.

“It’s up to ourselves as a group,” McNamee told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“Performances have been up and down. We need something to turn. I don’t know if it’s a bit of luck or class, but nothing is going our way at the minute.

“Confidence looks pretty low, but if we got a bit of luck things could change.”

Harps are looking to urgently stop the rot and face a key period in the next two weeks with games against Sligo Rovers (Friday), Cork City (Monday) and UCD (Friday-week).

McNamee said: “We keep saying: ‘surely, it’s going to come at some stage’. I don’t think anyone thought it would be 13 games.

“Would we have taken one win as opposed to the two draws? Of course. I don’t think it’s a lack of effort. Any team I’ve played with her has never lacked effort.

“We need to look ahead to Friday night and hope that something turns our way.”
