Listen: ‘Time to make a name for ourselves’ – Jamie Lynagh

BONAGEE United captain Jamie Lynagh feels the Dry Arch Park side are beginning to make a name for themselves.

A 3-0 home win over Munster Senior League outfit Lakewood Athletic yesterday fired Bonagee (pictured by Stephen Doherty) to the last 16 of the Intermediate Cup and also sealed a place in the first round of the 2020 FAI Senior Cup.

Michéal Doherty, Ryan Rainey and Michael Funston netted as Bonagee reached the fourth round for the first time.

“It’s a great day for the team and a great day for the club,” Lynagh told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“I’ve been here for many years and we’ve never progressed to the next level. Rovers have shown in recent years that it’s possible.

“It’s time to make a name for ourselves and make inroads in this competition.”

Doherty’s header, just before half-time, was the telling blow as it arrived in the nick of time and after goalkeeper Eugene Ferry repelled two efforts from the visitors.

Bonagee have enjoyed a fine start to the new season and they’re back in bmcsports.ie USL action next weekend. Lynagh added: “We have to get a win if we’re going to be serious about a title challenge after Christmas.”
