Brett McGinty has made a seamless move up to middleweight and the St Johnston man certainly feels more at home at 75kgs.
McGinty defeated Kelyn Cassidy from Waterford on Saturday night to reach the Irish Elite middleweight final.
On Saturday, he’ll box Michael Nevin in the final, a year after being beaten by Dean Walsh in the welterweight decider.
The Oakleaf puncher believes he has made the right call in moving up.
“Last night was the first time in four years where I’ve won a fight and haven’t had to weigh in to make the weight again,” McGinty said.
“I went back, I weighed in just over and knew I’d dry it out. It was the obvious thing to do.
“I was finding it hard towards the end of the fights. We had to sit down and rethink what we’re doing.”
McGinty turned in a professional and composed display to see off Cassidy.
He said: “I’m very happy with it. It was a tricky fight. I did what I had to do.
“He was awkward and hard to hit. I stuck behind the jab and stuck to my boxing. We had a good game plan and thankfully I put the game plan out there.”
