Listen: Rory Kavanagh reflects as Donegal return to Buncrana Cup final

Rory Kavanagh’s first foray into management has seen the Letterkenny man guide the Donegal U16s to the Buncrana Cup final.

A 4-10 to 0-8 win over Monaghan today at O’Donnell Park has set up a final meeting with Tyrone. Carlos O’Reilly, Johnny McGroddy, Eric Carr and Shane Monaghan bagged the goals for Donegal as they finished well after a tight affair.

“The last quarter we finished very strong,” Kavanagh said.

“The important period was the goal in the first half after they got the run on us. I always felt we were well in the game. We weathered the storm and it got even better when we got the goal.

“We hadn’t used the width like we should have.

“I felt that it was a great physical battle. Some of our fellas were put on their arses, which was good for us.

“I was pleased that we were fairly clinical today when the chances came. It was good that we finished the game well and the boys did well coming off the bench.”
