Listen: Why Rory Gallagher believes ‘composure’ and ‘cuteness’ are key for Donegal

Rory Gallagher believes that the recent narrow win over Meath will add the crucial ingredients of composure and cuteness to his Donegal side.

Donegal are 70 minutes from a return to Croke Park with an All-Ireland quarter-final berth the carrot on offer on Saturday evening when they meet Galway at Markievicz Park in Sligo.

After going down to Tyrone in a disappointing Ulster semi-final, Donegal returned with wins over Longford and Meath.

After an unconvincing success against Longford, Donegal had to pull the embers from the fire as Patrick McBrearty’s last-ditch score saw them get over the line against Meath in Pairc Tailteann.

“It was a great way to win a game,” Gallagher says ahead of Saturday’s Round 4 qualifier.

“They had to dig out a Championship match away from home when a lot of wee things went against us.

“We responded all the time, but we have to learn from that and we need to show more composure and cuteness.”

Galway will be reeling from their Connacht final loss to Roscommon and Gallagher says: “There is natural progression in terms of the quality of opposition we’re playing. We’re expecting a fair backlash from them this weekend.

“A lot of it will be about ourselves. We have to improve on our performance from Navan. We brought a much greater intensity level to that game. We worked exceptionally hard. We’d be disappointed with the chances we missed, but if we can improve from Meath we’ll be happy.”
