Listen: Roisin Friel on tasty ties in Donegal ladies club championships

LADIES football in Donegal has rarely been in better shape – and Termon and Donegal star Roisin Friel believes it makes for competitive championships at all grades this year.

The 2020 club championships begin on Sunday-week with a round robin phase to start with.

Friel and Termon begin the defence of their senior crown with a group game against Moville.

The draws for the various competitions were made last Thursday in Letterkenny.

“It’s fantastic to see thirty teams and four levels of championship,” Friel, also a member of the Donegal LGFA, told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It’s a good reflection of the county.  We have a lot of new teams in there this year. That’s a great sign for ladies football that these teams are coming through and putting out senior teams.”

The change in format certainly makes for some tasty ties in the coming weeks across the various grades.

Friel said: “We went four months with no football and we didn’t know if we’d have sport at all. We wanted to give clubs as many games as possible. Every game will have value. You can’t take the chance of losing a game.”
