Listen: Relief for Michael Kelly as St Michael’s win after ‘atrocious start’

Michael Kelly was delighted with how St Michael’s recovered from what he called an ‘atrocious’ start against Bundoran.

Two Jamie Brennan goals in the opening eight minutes had Bundoran 2-2 to no score ahead, but St Michael’s came back and Andrew Kelly’s 40th minute goal was the spur they needed for the win.

Even though they have two wins, St Michael’s aren’t guaranteed a last eight berth.

“It’s amazing…Normally if you get two out of two you’d be there, but if we don’t get a result in Malin it’s in the mix again,” Kelly said.

“It’s up to us to get a result up there, but there’ll be nothing easy.”

On today’s game and a comeback win, Kelly, whose side had an excellent start to the second half, when they took control said: “You have to give credit to the boys. The start was atrocious.

“Jamie got two good goals and we were on the back foot. But we kept chipping away and got it back to three. We always had a chance then in the second half. We knew if we could get level it would play on them a wee bit.”
