CHLOE AND SAM Magee will play for a medal tomorrow at the 2019 European Games in Minsk.

By Chris McNulty at the Falcon Club, Minsk

The Raphoe duo will take on Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek from Netherlands in a quarter-final at the Falcon Club.

This morning, the Magees defeated Aleksei Konakh and Kristina Silich from hosts Belarus 21-9 21-11, but they still had to sweat through three games between Russia and France before their place in the last eight was confirmed.

“It was a strange situation, but it was a good buzz,” Sam Magee told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It was a nice feeling to have that assurance.”

After defeating Russia on Monday night and losing to France on Tuesday, the qualification was really up for grabs.

Chloe Magee said: “We did our job. We knew that we had to keep the points low. France and Russia kept us on the edge of our seats, but we’re through and we’re just happy because we had a tough group.”

Now, the Dutch pair of Tabeling and Piek await tomorrow.

Sam Magee said: “It’s a good experience. These quarter-finals don’t come around too often. We’ll give it our all.”
