Listen: Ollie Horgan hits out after Finn Harps game called off in Drogheda

Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan fumed after tonight’s First Division game with Drogheda United was postponed due to poor floodlighting at United Park.

The decision to call the game off was only conveyed eight minutes after the 7.45pm kick-off time.

At the time, Horgan’s players were in the dressing room waiting to be called.

“It’s the manner of the way it was communicated that’s eating me up,” Horgan said.

“I had to go and find out. They should have had the decency to come and say there was a doubt.

“The referees doesn’t want to take responsibility and that’s fair enough; I’m not complaining about that.

“There was no indicator that there was a problem until quarter to eight came and went. I had to go out to see what the story was.”

19 of the 48 bulbs on the United Park pylons were out.

Harps are irked that the concern wasn’t raised when the officials arrived at the venue.

Horgan added: “I watched Drogheda twice in pre-season with League of Ireland officials and the lights were the exact same.

“I’ve played and managed teams in a hell of a lot worse. I have no problem taking responsibility for a team in that. It’s much better than some of the training facilities we use.”
