Eamon McConigley insists that Letterkenny Rovers aren’t getting ahead of themselves – despite opening up a nine-point gap at the top of the Four Lanterns Ulster Senior League.
BJ Banda’s sixth goal of the season for a 1-0 win over Bonagee yesterday means Rovers have won all six of their games in the opening third of the campaign.
Rovers, searching for a first USL title since 2009, have a nine-point margin, but are acutely aware that Cockhill have two games in hand.
“I haven’t looked at the table and the players definitely haven’t,” McConigley said.
“We said in a meeting this year that we wouldn’t look past the next game. We got three points here and that’s all it was.”
Banda opened the scoring in the 14th minute and Rovers were able to hold onto their lot – but could have added to their tally.
McConigley said. “The chances came our way and we were unlucky not to put them away. We were professional enough to see out the game.
“At 1-0, we were always on edge. The more they pushed, the deeper we went. We’re delighted to get out of there with a 1-0 win.”
