Listen: ‘Nothing beats games’ – Declan Bonner welcomes McKenna Cup semi spot

Declan Bonner says he wants to build a squad to keep Donegal ‘at the top table’.

Bonner saw his side defeat Cavan 1-20 to 1-12 in Ballybofey tonight to reach the McKenna Cup semi-finals.

“It’s important to get games – and they have been competitive,” Bonner said.

“Nothing beats games.

“We’re using this as a stepping stone and we want to win these games. We have 15 to 17 players to come back and it is a big disjointed.

“We want our jobs made difficult. There are lads standing up and that’s what we want to see.

“We want to have competition and we want to make the future bright for Donegal. We want to see Donegal at that top table.

Bonner hailed the influence of Michael Langan, who kicked nine points in a Man of the Match display.

He said: “Michael’s kicking was excellent. He’s going well. Last year was a good year for Michael. He has to move it up to the next level. He has the bit between the teeth and he wants to get there.”
