Michael Murphy says the onus is back on Donegal’s players to recover from their poor ending to the 2017 Championship.
After reaching six successive Ulster finals, Donegal were beaten by nine points at the hands of Tyrone in an Ulster semi-final this year before they crashed out of the All-Ireland race following a 15-point qualifier beating by Galway.
Now under Declan Bonner’s watch, Donegal are braced for an attempt at returning their pride.
“When a year goes like last year. when we don’t give back what we should in terms of performance at a level to compete, the onus comes back to us,” captain Murphy said.
“That will be the driving force over the next couple of months.”
Bonner’s tenure begins with the Dr McKenna Cup next month before Donegal embark on their Allianz League Division 1 campaign.
Already, Bonner has taken several new players into his ranks.
Murphy said: “I get excited at this time of every year, to see who’s new, who can keep their spot and who has potential for Championship. It’s a fresh start and a fresh approach.”
