MICKEY McCann says the Donegal hurlers have plenty of room for improvement after sealing a place in the semi-finals of the Nicky Rackard Cup.
Goals from Richie Ryan and Ronan McDermott in the second half steered Donegal to the last four, but it certainly wasn’t plain sailing.
“We didn’t know where we were at,” McCann told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub afterwards.
“It was seven months since we had a competitive game.
“We have been training at a higher intensity than that game was played. We had too many mistakes and weren’t clinical enough.
“It’s not enough if we’re going to try to win the Nicky Rackard Cup.”
Donegal lost Declan Coulter at half-time while Danny Cullen, Davin Flynn and Pádraig Doherty are all to come back into a squad that won Division 3A in the spring.
McCann said: “We have four boys to come in who are a big part of the team. We have a lot to improve on, but we’ll go back to the drawing board. We’ll move on and see how the draw goes for us now.”
