DONEGAL Ladies manager Maxi Curran feels that his side deserve a big stage to show their credentials.
Donegal’s ladies host Galway at 12noon on Sunday at O’Donnell Park in a Lidl Ladies NFL curtain raise to the Allianz League meeting of the two counties.
“It’s great that they get these big days out and ladies football is a rising tide,” Curran told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“This Division will be a tight-run affair this year. You’ll have the top three – Cork Galway, Dublin – and the rest of us are jostling for positions.
“Maybe the top teams aren’t at full-tilt yet, so it’s an opportunity for us. It’s a game we’re going into fully believing we can get something from.”
With Curran yet to welcome back several experienced players, Donegal have a host of new faces on show and their gritty win over Waterford at the weekend has encouraged the Donegal boss – as has their ability in recent years to adapt to a high personnel turnover.
He said: “The girls deserve great credit for keeping themselves in that bracket throughout all of the change.
“There is nothing like competitive games against top tams to find out about themselves.
“From the team that played Cork in the semi-final in 2018 we only had four with us in Waterford. It’s an ever-changing group and that isn’t unique for Donegal. A lot of the teams are still waiting for people to come back. Everyone is trying to find players in the League that they can use for the Championship.”
