Former Donegal star Martin Carney has hailed the ‘remarkable’ Brian McEniff.

Carney won two Ulster titles with Donegal in the 1970s alongside McEniff before going on to play for Mayo.

Ballyshannon native Carney was back in Donegal last night for the Night with Donegal GAA Greats, a banquet at which McEniff’s contribution to Donegal GAA was honoured.

“He’s a remarkable man; a man who nothing fazed,” Carney told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“He had remarkable self-confidence. We played in a county that only appeared twice in Ulster finals. He had a vision that we could be something if we believed in ourselves.

“He transmitted that belief. It was on his back that we went on to succeed. It was unheard of to have a player manager.

“He had the drive, vision and desire to succeed that was second to nobody.’
