Listen: Kevin McLaughlin says Greencastle can handle the heat and the hype

Kevin McLaughlin says there’s ‘a target’ on the backs of Greencastle’s players – but the Chapel Lane assistant boss says his men can handle the heat.

With two games less played, Greencastle joined champions Glengad at the top of the pile thanks to yesterday’s 3-0 win over Clonmany Shamrocks.

“That’s 15 wins from 15 and there’s a target on our back now,” McLaughlin said after goals from Mark Henry, Michael Henry and Shaun Doherty kept up their brilliant start to the season.

“If we keep doing what we’re doing, the games will pile up.”

Next weekend, Greencastle host Peake Villa from Tipperary in the FAI Junior Cup and McLaughlin was delighted to get a performance like yesterday’s.

He said: “It was good to see a performance like that again. I’m absolutely delighted with that. This is always a tricky place to come to. They’ll dog it out all the time.

“We played and took the sting out of the game. The way we controlled it made it hard for them – and that’s what we wanted.”
