Listen: Kevin McHugh reflects on successful debut season for Finn Harps U15s

Kevin McHugh says his Finn Harps Under-15s have ‘massive futures’ ahead of them.

Harps lost out 2-1 to Athlone Town in Saturday’s SSE Airtricity U15 League semi-final at Dry Arch Park, but McHugh believes his young charges can take big strides in their careers.

“We deserved to be in the final,” McHugh reflected.

“At the minute they’re the second best team in the country. What a statement that is for Finn Harps.

“As a club, Finn Harps aren’t in the top tier. We can’t be classed in the same League as Dundalk, Cork or St Pat’s. But we are the second best team in the country and that is massive. “These boys have massive futures ahead of them.”

Harps have been making good headway with their academy and recently appointed McHugh as the Academy Director.

The Killea native and Harps legend said: “We spent money we didn’t have for years. Now, we’re trying to do things right and hopefully the first team will see the benefits of that.”
