Listen: John Farren says Irish Open chance for Donegal to have a ‘world class show’

John Farren, the General Manager of Ballyliffin Golf Club, says the arrival of the 2018 Irish Open to the venue is a chance for Donegal to ‘put on a world class show’.

In July, the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open will be held on Ballyliffin’s Glashedy Links course.

Already, world number three, Jon Rahm, has confirmed that he will be playing as he looked to become the first player since Colin Monthomerie in 1997 to defend the title.

An anticipated 100,000 visitors will be in the region for the event.

“It’s a great time for the club, for Donegal and for the whole region,” Farren said.

“We’re delighted with the response we’ve got from the region. All of Donegal has been really supportive. Everyone is stepping up and asking: ‘What can we do to help’.

“Opportunities like this don’t come around too often. We need to put on a world class show. It is the legacy of the event that we’re after.

“It is a fantastic achievement for the club to get to this stage.”
