Listen: Glengad’s Matthew Byrne says clean sheets are key to keeping title at The Crua

Glengad United’s Matthew Byrne says clean sheets are the foundation of the title charge from The Crua men.

A 1-0 win over Clonmany Shamrocks on Sunday brings Glengad ever closer to a third Jackie Crossan Premier League title.

With Cup games over the next two weekends, the League champagne will remain on ice until May 3 at least. Then, they face Aileach at The Lakeside where a win would see them crowned champions.

Failing that, they’d have to go to a final day shootout with title rivals Buncrana Hearts.

Glengad were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at Carndonagh on Good Friday, but two clean sheets last weekend proved vital for Glengad, who have shipped only five League goals all season.

In their last nine League games, Glengad have conceded just two goals, scoring 28 in the same period.

“As long as we keep the ball out of the net, that’s our job done,” Byrne said.

“You want the big games coming. That’s what our boys thrive on.

“We just have to go through our own matches and do what we have to do.”
