Listen: Francie Friel says improved needed after Donegal U17s get third win in three games

Donegal Under-17 manager Francie Friel was happy with a third win on the trot at the weekend – but insisted his men still have to improve.

Donegal made it three wins from three games with a 3-11 to 0-6 win over Derry in Ballybofey on Saturday, having led 2-8 to no score at half-time.

Jamie Crawford (2) and Mark McAteer scored the Donegal goals.

“The second half performance wasn’t good enough,” Friel said.

“It was very poor, but we’ll have to work on that for the next day. When you’re winning by so much, it’s hard to keep it going all the time, but we were very sloppy in the second half.”

Donegal will take on Tyrone in the Championship in early May and Friel is happy with where his side is at.

He said: “We’ve trained very hard and put a big effort in. They’re buying into what we’re doing. We asked for a commitment and they’re giving it their first preference. They’re giving it a good go.”
