Listen: Francie Friel looks forward to Donegal’s U20 opener with Cavan

Donegal U20 selector Francie Friel says they ‘can’t wait’ to get their Championship bid up and running on Sunday against Cavan.

The U20 meeting of Donegal and Cavan is the curtain-raiser to the Ulster SFC quarter-final between Donegal and Derry in Celtic Park on Sunday.

It is Donegal’s first ever game at U20 level as the competition changed from U21 level. Termon native Friel is part of the management team pieced together by boss Gary McDaid.

“Preparation has gone well,” Friel said.

“We’re into the nitty gritty. All the work has been done and we’re looking forward to the game.

“We talked at the start about getting them together as many times as possible and get as much work done. It comes down to getting the work done and getting a plan together. We can’t wait to Sunday as a group, the players and the management.”

Friel admits that an Ulster final is the aim for the Tir Chonaill young guns and added: “We want to be easy on the eye, but we have to be hard to beat. We’re trying to get a mix.”
