Listen: Francie Friel happy as Donegal U17s respond well to reach McGuigan Cup final

Francie Friel was pleased with how his Donegal Under-17s came from behind against Down today to reach the Jim McGuigan Cup final.

Donegal conceded a bad goal to Justin Clarke in the first half, but four points by Dungloe man Oisin Bonner in the second period fired Donegal into next Saturday’s final.

“We didn’t get off to a good start, but in fairness we grew into the game,” Friel said.

“We found it hard to get on the ball in the first half, but we got to grips with it in the second half. We really pushed it on.

“We were only a point down at half-time, which was good considering how we’d played. Oisin kicked some good scores under pressure. That’s what he’s there for.”
