Listen: Finn Harps secretary appeals for action on ‘unfair’ scheduling

Finn Harps secretary John Campbell has called for urgent action on the League of Ireland’s fixture list – which he says is ‘causing huge problems’.

After Friday’s game against St Patrick’s Athletic at Finn Park, Harps don’t have another game in Ballybofey until October 4, when they host UCD.

With Waterford United due in Ballybofey on October 18 and then a two-week wait for a potential play-off, it presents a big challenge for Harps.

“We have to be realistic about this,” Campbell told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“Any business that is only allowed generate income one week in nine, it creates a problem.

“It’s probably something that is highlighted a bit more from the start of the season we were playing on Friday and Monday and now we have nothing to cover that period. It’s a massive, massive hole.

“We’re out looking for the Donegal public to support us again. That’s through no fault of the board or the team – it’s through planning that is causing huge problems, not just for Finn Harps.

“It’s a situation that has got to be dealt with. It’s very unfair on volunteers who have to go out and gather money to cover something that is generating by no opportunity to have income.”

Harps have extended an invite to past managers and ex-players for this week’s fixture against Pat’s as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the club’s entry into the League of Ireland.
