Listen: FAI President Donal Conway on Calendar Season Football

Football Association of Ireland President Donal Conway and FAI Club and League Development Officer Ger McDermott were in Donegal last night for a workshop on a move to calendar season football.

This was the seventh such meeting around the country.

Due to the situation with the Republic of Ireland senior team manager’s position, FAI CEO John Delaney was not present at the workshop.

FAI chiefs are exploring the option of moving all football to a calendar season – where football would start after February 1 and be completed before November 30.

However, there was a unanimous show against such a move from Donegal’s clubs with representatives from the Inishowen League, Donegal League and Ulster Senior League all speaking out against it.

Mr Conway stressed that any such moves are not yet agreed at Board level in the FAI and that the meetings are part of a consultation process.
