Listen: ‘Ecstatic’ Peadar Mogan on LyIT’s Sigerson run

PEADAR Mogan says Letterkenny Institute of Technology must keep being ‘brave’ as they continue their Sigerson Cup odyssey.

In the competition for the first time, LyIT have reached the semi-finals following a 1-14 to 1-8 win over IT Sligo on Sunday.

The Michael Murphy-managed LyIT had beaten Athlone IT seven days earlier and now they face IT Carlow on Wednesday in a semi-final.

“We’re ecstatic to be honest,” Mogan told Ocean FM’s Cathal Mullaney after Sunday’s win.

“At the start of the year, it’s something we didn’t expect.  We looked at the draw and hope, but we just had to take the first game against Athlone. We have a good bunch of boys here.”

Trench Cup winners last year, LyIT dipped their toes into the top level for the first time in their history, but that decision has already been vindicated.

And they don’t want it to stop here. Mogan said: “It’s massive for the college and it really puts us on the map. We play in a positive manner. The boys tell us to be brave, go at the opposition and we’ll just keep doing that.”
