Listen: Donegal boss Declan Bonner reflects on ‘titanic’ U21 battle with Tyrone

Donegal Under-21 manager Declan Bonner said his charges ‘wore the Donegal shirt with pride’ in an intense battle with Tyrone tonight.

The teams will meet again next Wednesday in Ballybofey after a 0-14 apiece draw after extra time in Healy Park.

Donegal had goalkeeper Danny Rodgers to thank for a wonderful one-handed save while a follow-up block by Ethan O’Donnell was equally important – as were the six points landed by Michael Langan.

“It was a titanic battle,” said a visibly exhausted Bonner.

“We had our chances. We kicked an awful lot of wides. It could have went either way. We’re still there and we have a huge seven days to get ready.

“We had chances that we didn’t take and those are the small margins that matter on Championship nights like this.”

With a number of players crossing between the teams, Bonner will now sit down with Donegal senior boss Rory Gallagher to discuss their strategy for the next week.

The Donegal seniors are due to face Tyrone on Saturday night in the Allianz League at Sean MacCumhaill Park.
