Listen: Declan Boyle reflects as Finn Harps U17s make hard work of win over Dundalk

Finn Harps Under-17 manager Declan Boyle would rather if his team made life a little easier for themselves – but he wasn’t complaining too much after a 1-0 win over Dundalk yesterday.

Niall McGinley’s header gave Harps a fourth League win of the campaign and a fourth clean sheet in the League.

“It was a struggle at times,” said Boyle, whose team couldn’t put the game to bed despite a glut of chances.

“We should have killed it and didn’t. it could have gone either way. Joe made a great save, but we were the better team over the 90 minutes. We were under a wee bit of pressure, but we’re happy with the performance because they did have three big games in eight days.”

After a League win over Monaghan-Cavan last Saturday, Harps lost 1-0 to Derry in the Mark Farren Cup on Wednesday night.

Boyle added: “They’re only young lads and a lot of them are coming out of playing 60-minute games to playing the full 90.”
