Donegal manager Declan Bonner hopes his new players can learn some lessons from tonight’s McKenna Cup defeat to Fermanagh in Ballybofey.
Seamus Quigley posted 1-7 for Fermanagh as Rory Gallagher returned to haunt Donegal.
“It was a good, competitive match against a near full-strength Fermanagh,” Bonner mentioned afterwards.
“We were asked questions but at times we didn’t have the answers. It gives us a good idea of what we have to do.
“Our ultimate aim was to get boys in to see if they can stand up to the rigours of the League.”
Jamie Brennan hit 1-2 for Donegal in the first half, but when Quigley beat Mark Anthony McGinley in the 48th minute for a goal, the tide had turned in Fermanagh’s favour.
Bonner said: “We played some very good football and kicked some very good scores. You couldn’t fault the effort.
“We were hit hards by the Fermanagh kick-outs and we just weren’t switched on. The goal was disappointing and it was just sloppy. The game will stand to us if we can learn from our mistakes.”
