Declan Bonner has rarely learned as he has this spring since taking on the role of Donegal senior football team manager.
The Na Rossa clubman returned as county manager for a second spell following Rory Gallagher’s departure last autumn.
Donegal looked impressive early in the League without picking up points and some recent displays now leave them dangling by a thread. But they know a win over relegation rivals Mayo on Sunday will see them retain their Division 1 status.
“We probably would have taken it – it’s in our own hands,” Bonner said.
“It’s a huge match for us. It would be a great way to lead into the Championship for us. It has a Championship feel to it for us.
“Every night you go out, you’re learning. The games have been high intensity against the best teams in the country. They are invaluable as the summer approaches. It’s been a great learning experience for everyone involved.”
