OLLIE HORGAN, the Finn Harps manager, described last night’s stalemate in Cork as ‘a point gained’.
The draw, coupled with UCD’s loss at home to Sligo, means Harps are six points ahead of UCD, who visit Finn Park in two weeks’ time.
While Daniel O’Reilly had two big chances for Harps in the closing moments, the game’s big moment saw Mark Anthony McGinley save Conor McCormack’s 48th minute penalty.
“This will go to the last game,” Horgan said of the battle for survival.
“It could very easy go that distance. Whoever gets to the play-off will have a savage battle. We’d gladly love to get there and take our chances in that.
“We’ll need to get better to try and survive. We defended well, although we were living off scraps. We had to defend in numbers. Had they scored the penalty, it might have been a longer night for us. We’ll gladly take the point, especially with the situation we’re in.”
Although UCD lost 2-0 last night to Sligo, Harps expects a stern test against the Students. He said: “UCD have bodies to come back for our game, Liam Kerrigan and Jack Keaney. They’re a handful and that will be a difficult game for us. Would we take a draw now? Absolutely we would.”
