Lifford Strabane AC: Cormac O’Donnell receives Ulster Star Award

After another busy week at Lifford Strabane AC, the week ended with news of team call-ups and an Ulster Star Award.

On Friday, November 17, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan, the Ulster Athletics Council held their awards night. Lifford Strabane AC’s young Cormac O’Donnell was awarded the well-justified award due to his success at the Ulster Championship events accruing a total of four Gold Medals for 2018.

Team Call-Ups

Several Lifford Strabane AC’s athletes have been called up to represent Donegal at the National Senior & Junior Cross-Country Championships in Dublin Sunday, November 25 and without any doubt, they will all be a great asset to their respective teams. In the Senior Ladies Team Claire McGuigan & in the Junior Men’s Team Alan McGinley, Brandon McGrinder alongside Charlie McElwaine.

The Irish National Throws Squad 2018-2019 have enlisted Lifford Strabane AC’s hammer throwers Brendan O’Donnell & Adrienne Gallen who will be joined by javelin thrower Gareth Crawford.

Well done in being selected to represent your county & country!! Good luck to all athletes in their particular events!

Just the one road race to report on this week which saw 11 Lifford Strabane AC athletes represent the club at the Annual Remembrance 10K/Walk hosted by Finn Valley AC. A record number of runners/walkers turned out for this event with a total of 753 taking to the start line!! The morning itself was almost perfect for racing, apart from a slight headwind in places.

The first 3 male finishers for the club was Chris Cuskelly in a superb time of 42:48, John Coyle had a great run to finish in 43:45 with Dominic Carlin in 45:48.

The first 3 female finishers for the club was Dympna Houston finishing in a super time of 45:37, Claire Keys was next in a great time of 47:19 followed by Roisin McGinley in 48:21.

Other club members & finishing times were: Ursula Coyle 50:44, Ciaran McAuley 51:44, Andrea Porter 51:45, Liam Cleary 53;10 & Stephen Crawford 53:47.

Other News

Couch to 5K Programme continues Tuesday & Thursday at 6:30pm. This consists of training on both Tuesday & Thursday evenings.

Please wear suitable clothing & footwear for exercising in. Juvenile training Monday 6:15pm & Wednesday 6:15pm over 10’s only!!

Walking Group Monday & Wednesday 6:30pm on both evenings.

Adult training Tuesday & Thursdays at 6.45pm.

Lifford Strabane AC caters for all abilities. All training sessions are coach led. New members always welcomed.
