Action at the indoors was in ample supply over the course of the weekend.

Lifford Strabane AC was represented by 40 juvenile athletes at the Indoor Arena, Magherafelt for the Ulster Juvenile Indoor Championships were it was reported to have been as cold inside as it was outside.

All athletes produced performances to be very proud of over the two days of competitions with numerous medals and personal bests achieved by these young talented club athletes.

On Sunday, at the new National Indoor Arena, Abbotstown, Dublin at the AAI games Master Track & Field athlete Seamus McAteer alongside juvenile athletes Shannon Craig & Conor Breslin were in action.

Shannon competing in the high jump event placed 5th overall with a 1.65m jump. Conor Breslin sprinted his way to 3rd in heat 5 of the 200m race in a time of 23.8 sec’s & 5th in the long jump event, jumping 5.58m. Seamus McAteer ran 62.9 sec’s over 400m in heat 6 placing 5th.

On the roads it was the inaugural Glenmore 10 miler in Ballybofey hosted by Finn Valley AC that attracted 427 athletes, 32 from the club to a very frosty and chilly start line on Sunday.

Despite the freezing conditions Lifford Strabane AC athletes ran terrific times, with many running their best time to date over the 10 mile distance to record very deserving PB’s (personal bests).

First club athlete to the finish line was master club athlete Bill Duncan. Bill finished in a terrific time of 62:10 claiming 1st M50+ Category placing 22nd overall, Paul Dillion was next to the finish line for the club running a personal best in a superb time of 62:30PB. Sean Carlin was the 3rd male club athlete to the finish line. Sean’s excellent form continues running a personal best in a super time of 73:07PB.

Linda McGrath was the 1st female athlete home for the club. This was Linda’s first experience of racing over this distance, finishing in an excellent time of 80:59, 2nd female finisher for the club was Veronika McGillian in a great time of 81:18.

Female master athlete Roisin McGinley was 3rd lady home for the club. This athlete is displaying great form at present running a personal best of 81:42PB & claiming 3rd in the F50+ Category.

Well done to all our club athletes that were in action over the weekend. Great performances by all.

Next weekend sees the final race of our 5k Spring Series taking place on Sunday the 12th of February. The venue for this race is Lifford. Race commencing at 10:30am. Registration takes place at Lifford Strabane AC.

We were delighted with the large numbers of athletes that turned out to support the first two races in the series and we would hope that this support will continue for the final race of the “Lifford Strabane AC Daly’s XL, Lifford Annual 5K Spring Series” for 2017.

A number of club athletes are sitting in significant scoring positions on the points table in their respective categories adding to the excitement and anticipation for the final race.

Our couch to 5k programme continues on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. Well done to all taking part and making great progress.

Juvenile Training continues on Monday & Wednesday at 6:30pm.                   Adult Training continues on Tuesday & Thursday 6:45pm. All new members welcomed.
