Letterkenny Rugby pair on Irish squads for Sevens action

TWO YOUNG Letterkenny rugby players have been named on Irish squads that will be in action this weekend.

Mya Alcorn and Charlie Worth have been confirmed on Irish Sevens squads for tournaments in Swansea and Poland.

Alcorn is part of a 12-player squad for the Irish Under-18 Womens Sevens, who take part in a Home Nations Sevens Tournament in Swansea.

This is the second competition for the Ireland Under-18 Women’s Sevens squad this season and forms part of the Women’s Sevens Development pathway for this group.

This weekend forms part of the Ireland team’s preparations for for the Rugby Europe Under-18 Womens Sevens Championship in Jarcoin, Poland, which takes place August 31 and September 1. Ireland have been drawn in Pool C with Scotland, Latvia and Georgia.

Worth has been named as captain of the Ireland Under-18 Sevens who will take part in the Rugby Europe Under-18 Men’s Sevens Championship in Gdansk, Poland.

Charlie Worth

Ireland have a proud record in the U-18 European competition with title wins in both 2016 and 2017, along with runners-up finish behind France last year.

They head up Pool B at this weekend’s tournament, with games against Luxembourg, Russia and Georgia on Saturday.

Worth, who is at Royal School, Armagh, plays at centre and will captain Ireland in the 12-team tournament.
