LETTERKENNY RUGBY CLUB went down to a home defeat at the hands of Holywood in the Kukri Championship Division 3.

The visitors took the lead on 15 minutes, with the home side at the Glebe having lost David Brown to the yellow card, when Joel de Plenge kicked the penalty.

However, five minutes later, Letterkenny were back on terms when Ryan Mortimer slotted over a penalty.

But the visitors went back in front on 23 minutes when sustained pressure on the Letterkenny line saw Paddy McCuthean get in in the corner.

It was 8-3 at the break to Holywood.

On 52 minutes, de Plenge popped over a penalty for Holywood. Letterkenny continued to have plenty of the ball, although they couldn’t convert that possession onto the scoreboard.

With 10 minutes left, Bryan McGinley finally got in to score a Letterkenny try. However, Letterkenny head coach Ciaran O’Dowd was disappointed afterwards with the performance of match referee Andrew Mitchell.
