LETTERKENNY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY strolled to a 3-0 victory at NUI Galway this afternoon in Division One Group A of the Colleges and Universities Football League.

NUI Galway 0-3 Letterkenny IT

In the first match under the management of Shane Byrne, LyIT saw Daire McDaid get the ball rolling before Kenny Doran doubled their advantage. Paul McVeigh’s goal confirmed the win.

McDaid opened the scoring in the sixth minute when he composedly finished having snapped up on a loose kick-out. It was 2-0 when Doran scored directly from a corner kick five minutes before the break. McVeigh then sealed the points with a third goal on 75 minutes when he finished well following a Ryan Connolly throughball.

It might’ve been more had LyIT not seen two goals – one each from Connolly and Doran – disallowed for offside and an adjudged foul respectively.

LyIT will take to the road next Tuesday, October 13, to play Dundalk IT before back-to-back home matches against GMIT Galway on Wednesday, October 21, and IT Blanchardstown on Tuesday, November 3. Then, there’s an away fixture at IT Sligo on Wednesday, November 11.

LyIT: Peter Burke (Cliftonville); Liam Doherty (Finn Harps), Peter Doherty (Cockhill Celtic), Ross Coughlan (Kilcullen), Fearghal Harkin (Clonmany Shamrocks); Kevin Doran (Rathmullan Celtic), Daire McDaid (Kilmacrennan Celtic), Darren Gallagher (Aileach FC), Ryan Connolly (Rathmullan Celtic); Anthony Appiah (Bonagee United), Paul McVeigh (Letterkenny Rovers). Subs: Cian Mulligan (Letterkenny Rovers) for Doran (59), Keelan McElwaine (Fanad United) for Connolly (73), Michael Kusigbagbe (unattached) for L Doherty (84). Not used: Michael Ogunnaike (Rock Celtic) and Mark McElhinney (Derry City).
