Letterkenny Golf: Full round-up following an action-packed December

We have never seen as much golf been played at Letterkenny Golf Course during the month of December 2018.

The normal Wednesday and weekend competitions were mostly successful during last month – apart from a few cancellations due to weather conditions.

The mild winter certainly is partly due to this fact but also the fact that the course is in such good shape and there is a run on the ball on some of the fairways is also a large contributory factor.

It was great to see the Car Park full on the first Saturday morning in January 2019. The golfing season has certainly got off to an early start this year.

The last competition of the year 2018 was held on Sunday 30th December.  This competition was won in style by Enda Mannion (11.4) with one birdie and 9 pars scoring an excellent 42 pts.
There was a large turnout for the New Years Day Open.  John P. Clarke (6.3) claimed the honour of being the first winner in 2019 with a great score of 42 pts.  John got three birdies – on the 4th, the 11th, and the 13th along with 11 pars.
Kevin Roche (18.6) was runner up with 39 pts. and William White (11.1) was third with 38 pts.
The Wednesday Open was won by George Onofrei (8.9) with a score of 38 pts. George took 12 pars out of the course. Gerry Keeney (23.8) was the runner up with 36 pts. and Charlie Collins (13.5) was third with 35 pts.
The Saturday Open 5th Jan. saw an exceptionally large turnout. Joe McManus (23.0) was triumphant on the day with a score of 40 pts. scoring 4 pars and 10 bogeys. Michael O’Malley (14.2)  was runner up with 39 pts. (BOT) and Stephen Walsh (12.6) was third with 39 pts. Kenny King (8.2) won Gross with 38 pts.
The Sunday Members Competition was won by Ian Ireland (15.3) with a score of 43 pts. Ian had a birdie on the first hole and then took 8 pars out of the course.  Adrian Daly (18.0) was runner up with 41 pts and Lee Walsh (10.2) was third with 40 pts. Michael Collum (5.2) won Gross with 40 pts.
The ‘Get into Golf Programme’ commences again in 2019. It has been very successful since its commencement in 2016. It appeals to people who would like to take up golf but for whatever reason, it just does not happen.
The ‘Get into Golf Programme’ provides golf clubs, golf bag, and balls.
New members are given a chance to learn the basics of the game as well as the rules and etiquette of golf. There is also a follow up with a buddy system where new members can go out with a club member to play the course.
Ivan Fury and Veronica McAteer are running the ‘Get into Golf Programme’ and can be contacted on (074)9121150
Membership Options & Costs for Letterkenny Golf Club may be of interest to visitors over the holiday periods.  Distance (80+ miles) €325 (Full Member) Country Member living between 10 & 49 miles costs  €300.  Country Member living between 50+ miles costs €175 and Overseas Members costs €150.
The Wednesday Opens, Saturday Opens and Sunday Members Competitions continues as usual.
