Letterkenny cyclist finishes in unique way as late mishap costs him race win

Letterkenny man Sean McFadden carried his bike for the last 200 metres and over the line in a race he looked set to win yesterday.

McFadden was 200 metres from home in an A1 race at the Markievicz Cup in Sligo, a 75-kilometre race, when he broke his rear derailleur.

He was 20 seconds in front when disaster struck.

“We just hit the 200-metre-to-go mark and I broke the derailleur hanger,” McFadden said.

McFadden finished with a smile, despite his late mishap, and with his bike hung across his back.
