Kevin Mulhern, just back from injury, put Cloughaneely on the scoreboard with a point in the seventh minute.

Killybegs were awarded a free shortly after which Hugh McFadden effortlessly converted.

McFadden yet again stood out for his free taking ability for the visiting team, scoring eight of their 11 points, 6 of which came from frees.

Cloughaneely responded with two quick points, from Martin McGuire and Darren Ferry to put the home side 0-3 to 0-1 ahead.

A point from Donal McGuire and another McFadden free saw Killybegs draw level again before Darren Ferry managed to pull the home side ahead with a well-worked point.

However Killybegs’ Christopher Murrin was quick to make the game all square for the second time, and McFadden followed with another point to bring Killybegs into the lead for the first time.

Cloughaneely got a burst of energy in the dying minutes of the half half and notched up much needed points from Martin McGuire, John McGarvey and Ciaran McFadden to put them 2 ahead at the half time whistle, 0-7 to 0-5.

Killybegs were off to a strong start for the second half, however two strong attacks failed to produce the scores.

Cloughaneely had their work cut out for them in their attempts to navigate the Killybegs defensive system; Ciaran Scanlon managed to find an opening to claim the first second half score for the home side.

The force of McFadden was felt again when he punished the home-side with two points.
