KILCAR WERE THIS afternoon’s jubilee team at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey – 25 years after their success over Killybegs.

Whilst Gaoth Dobhair were the ones leaving with the smiles on their faces following victory over Naomh Conaill in today’s Donegal SFC final, beforehand the men from Towney were introduced to the crowd of just under 6,000 at MacCumhaill Park.

In 1993, Kilcar defeated their neighbours Killbegs on a 0-12 to 0-10 scoreline to stop their neighbours from wining three-in-a-row. Charlie Collins of Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub was the man who introduced the Kilcar players to those in attendance.

That 1993 team was Paddy Sweeney in goal; a full-back line of Michael Carr, Enda McHugh and John O’Donnell, with Declan McShane, James Carr and Kevin Lyons in the half-back line. At centre-field it was Christy Gillespie and Mark McShane with David Cannon, Martin McHugh and Michael Molloy on the 45. The full-forward line was made up of Roger McShane, James McHugh and Padraig Howley. The subs on the day were Neilly Byrne and Noel McDevitt, while Bill Vaughan, Michael McShane, Gerard McBrearty, Dermot Sweeney, Finlay McIvor, Stephen Byrne, Raymond Carr, Kieran O’Donnell, Seamus Gallagher, Declan McDevitt and Seamus Cunningham were also part of the panel.

On Saturday night, those were were home caught up in John Joe’s Bar in Kilcar to watch the final back on television.
