JOSHUA SMITH could make his Finn Harps debut in Friday night’s north west derby against Derry City.
Harps confirmed the signing of the 27-year-old American-born centre-back from Heseen Dreieich last week.
Smith was signed by Harps after spending a period on trial at the club.
“He has been out of game with injury from January and, while he is fully fit and injury free, he is a little bit short of match practice,” Horgan said.
“He played in the Fourth Division in Germany and he’s available for us now.
“We feel that he will play a part for us on Friday. He is here for nothing other than to resurrect his career and it’s a good fit.
“He is at the level for us. If he hadn’t suff the injury then maybe he’d have gone somewhere else.
“He’s a good lad and he fits into the group very well.”
Smith had been with Heseen Dreieich since early 2018 having previously been with SC Idar-Oberstein, University of San Francisco, San Jose Earthquakes, Burlingame Dragons and New England Revolution.
Harps are also expected to add midfielder Ruairi Harkin to their ranks with Horgan set to run the rule over some prospective signings in a friendly against Linfield at Windsor Park on Saturday.
The Harps manager said: “We have a couple in that will play on Saturday in Windsor. We took that game with the timing of it before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.”
