Jordan Boyce turns in a fighting display against Tony O’Shea in World qualifiers

JORDAN BOYCE PUT IN A STRONG performance against three-time finalist Tony ‘Silverback’ O’Shea today before being beaten 5-3 in the Graad Slam of Darts qualifiers in Hull.

The 16-year-old Newtowncunningham schoolboy was 3-0 down against O’Shead, but fought back to level the match at 3-3.

Boyce, a student at Deele College in Raphoe, lost 5-3 against O’Shea, who was the beaten finalist in the BDO World Championships in 2009, 2012 and 2013.

All is not lost for Boyce, who also competes in the BDO Lakeside World Youth Championships. Tomorrow, he takes on Brandon Nicholl from Scotland in the last 128.

His father, Paddy, was also in action in the BDO World Championshop qualifiers and he overcame Kierion Cater from Wales 5-2 in the last 128 but he was edged out 5-4 by Robert Nelson from the Isle of Man in the last 64.

Ramelton man Clive Aiken overcame Andy Wheeler from England 5-4 in the last 256, but he lost out 5-1 against Stephen Lennon from Kildare in the last 128.

John Murray, also from Ramelton, was beaten 5-1 by Stuart Rattray of Scotland while Sean Wilson, who hails from Buncrana, lost out to Nick Kenny from Wales 5-2 after recording a win over Mark Sutton from Scotland.
