Jim McGuinness says he is looking forward to ‘a new chapter in Europe’ after confirming that he has left his post as assistant manager of Beijing Sinobo Guoan.
The 2012 All-Ireland winning Donegal manager joined the club in July on a two-and-a-half year contract as assistant to Roger Schmidt.
The Glenties man had been employed by Celtic since the winter of 2012, as a sports psychologist and then as a coach.
Beijing Sinobo Guoan finished ninth in the Chinese Super League in 2017 and while Schmidt, a former Bayer Leverkusen manager, is to stay in China, McGuinness is to look for a new opening closer to home.
“I would like to thank the owner of the club, Mr Joe, the GM, Mr Li Ming and everyone associated with the club,” he said.
“The respect and hospitality I have received since I arrived in Beijing has been fantastic. Every day working at the club has been thoroughly enjoyable.
“I would also like to thank Roger for giving me the opportunity to be part of his management team.
It has been an amazing experience working under a top European coach and I have learned so much from him. I feel my experience in Beijing has set me ups for the next stage of my coaching development and I look forward to a new chapter in Europe.”
